Overview
Dangerous Dungeon was part of a mini-game jam organized between me and my friends. The theme of the jam was "Falling" and we had 24h to make a fully playable game. My idea was to simply make the ennemies fall onto the player. It was a fun and challenging way to test our skill.
Experience
The game was a pretty nice experience all things considered. It allowed me to experiment a bunch with pixel art, music making and of course to improve my coding skills. It also showed me how important it is to manage your time properly, especially with how tight the deadline was.
Possible improvements
- Better scaling: The current build has a pretty basic scaling, with a set amount of ennemies and a simple increase in HP each wave. I would probably create unique ennemy types and make a point system, similar to the raids in Rimworld
- Platforming: The game suffers from a lack of real movement option. I think making the arena different every couple of rounds and adding a platforming element to the game would greatly enhanced the experience.
- Better upgrade system: Since the goal of the game is to reach higher and higher score, i would add a shop system where you could spend points for upgrades, giving you a choice between keeping your points or spending them to potentially get more in the long run.
Takeaways
This little project taught me how to work under a tight deadline, how to easily make something that works and how to prototype simple concept in just a single day. It showed me how to properly manage my time and what to do when things break at the very end of a project.
